The Asian Aviation Center widens their Services

The Asian Aviation Centre ( Pilot Training Academy- Ratmalana.) has commenced its operations since 1985 as a Limited Liability Company based in Ratmalana. According to the Managing Director Ms. Nihara Jayathilleke the Asian Aviation Centre has widen its operations and services. She says at the very early stages, even the cadet pilots belonged to Sri Lanka Air Force has obtained their pilot training from this academy.

In addition to the training of cadet pilots The Asian Aviation Centre now conducts special training courses related to Aviation industry. It is the only place in Sri Lanka which conducts courses for manufacturing and designing of Air Crafts. Also the Aviation Centre provides assistance for the cadet students to widen their strengths in the field of Aviation. Lots of Commercial Airliners have taken steps to offer more job opportunities for the cadet pilots who obtain their training at the Ratmalana Aviation Centre.

For an example a cadet student who joins this training academy as an apprentice technician can later become an Aeronautical Engineer.  Also this academy provides special facilities to cadet students to do their aeronautical studies in the 3rd year at the Kingston University in UK.
At present the cadet pilots who successfully complete studies in Aviation are being offered good job opportunities in the National Career as well as other commercial airlines.

Apart from this The Asian Aviation Centre receives a lot of applications from cadet students from countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives to train as cadet pilots.

The Aviation Center possesses Air Crafts like “Cessna “ and “Fiber Sheneger  for their Training .In addition The Aviation Center has signed an MOU with another Company to purchase more training Air Crafts . Also Retired Air force pilots and Wing Commanders render their services as Lecturers and Instructors attached to this Academy,

The institution offers courses in different areas which include Private Piloting, Commercial Piloting & Airline Transport Pilot Licenses, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. "The interest in this field has increased greatly since the development of the airline industry in Sri Lanka, so that other countries in the Asian region, including India, Nepal and Maldives, though having training centers such as this one, prefer to send their students to Sri Lanka to pursue the courses we have on offer", also we are planning to start the Maintenance Services of Aero planes through this Training Academy in future” says Ms. Nihara Jayatilleke, the Managing Director at the Asian Aviation Centre.

I joined the Asian Aviation Centre Pvt (Ltd) in the year 1996 to THE FIRST BATCH to follow Degree program with Kingston University London UK. What can I say? For sure AAC is one of the best schools in Srilanka for Aviation Studies. During my days I helped to build the Wind Tunnel but not sure if that still exists, Our team countless hours to cut open a Russian radial engine and Chinese Jet engine for students to learn internal operations. Endless yelling from Mr. K.B. Rajapaksa, ONE WHO TAUGHT ME LOT ABOUT everything I need to know about aeroplanes. I took my first flying lesson back in 1994 ( soon after my OLs) at AAC. Experience and support I got from AAC helped to develop myself to become as an engineer.

Past few years I worked for a few companies such as National Physical Laboratory- Teddington UK 1999-2002 Jr Engineer, Contract Engineer ( Material Processing and Manufacturing) UK 2002-2005, Applied Composite Engineering- Indianapolis, IN, USA 2005-2006, Vought/Boeing Dallas TX 2006-2007, Materials, Processes and Physics Engineer and currently im working as a Materials, Process, and Physics Engineer at Boeing South Carolina.
I sincerely thank all my Lecturers and staff at AAC for this tremendous journey they have taken my life through, I recommend all my fellow Sri Lankan brothers and Sisters to take the path of Aerospace Engineering as it certainly can bring you career and experience that is certainly life-changing. Following your childhood dreams, is doing justice to yourself!

AEROSPACE ENGINEERING - THE FUTURE OF ENGINEERING

AEROSPACE ENGINEERING - THE FUTURE OF ENGINEERING
Aerospace engineering is all about designing and manufacturing of aircraft and spacecraft. Aircraft are designed to operate within the atmosphere and spacecraft goes beyond the atmosphere. While some of them like satellites remain in space there are space shuttles and other re-entry vehicles which do come back to earth’s surface after the mission.
Aerospace engineers are needed to coordinate the design and manufacturing processes of aircraft/spacecraft. They do have to have the knowledge of Mechanics, Materials Science, Mechanics of Materials, Aerodynamics, Flight dynamics, Thermodynamics, Project management, Control systems engineering, electronics and etc.
Kingston University in London, United Kingdom is one of the oldest institutions in the world to conduct programmes related to aviation ever since the development of the aircraft. Kingston upon Thames has well known inheritance of aviation because of the Sopwith aircraft company founded in 1912. Sopwith is one of the largest military aircraft producers contributing immensely to Royal Forces in World War One which later became Hawker Siddley; a component integrated into British Aerospace systems.
The Bachelors (Honours) Degree in Aerospace Engineering at Kingston University is a three year full time programme. Students around the world are joining this programme to achieve excellence in aviation industry due to the recognition it hails over the past for its proven and accepted intellectual benefits. This programme provides the opening for further studies in the form of Bachelor in Engineering or Masters and continuation up to doctorate in related fields. On completion of BSc Aerospace Engineering programme conducted by Kingston University these graduates can seek employment within the leading Aircraft /Aircraft Component manufacturers in the world such as Airbus, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, General Electric and Etc.
Asian Aviation Centre in Sri Lanka has a long lasting relationship with Kingston University and proudly celebrates more than 20 years of collaboration. It provides the opportunity for the students to follow the first two years of the study programme in Sri Lanka andthen proceed to Kingston University in London to complete the final year and graduate. The students can continue study programmes of the first two years while enjoying the comforts at the home front so that they have to spend only the tuition fee. This arrangement savesa lot of money and benefits their sponsors financially.
Most of the graduates are in employment within the aviation industry as of today and some of them have deviated their interest towards other engineering disciplines such as Automotive and Mechanical Engineering since the curriculum for Aerospace Engineering comprises many modules which are also fundamental  for Automotive and Mechanical Engineering.
Graduates can apply for the Incorporated Membership of Royal Aeronautical society, UK (Oldest Aviation Society in the world) and IMechE (Institute of Mechanical Engineering, UK) just after the graduation and depending on the work experience they can proceed towards the CharteredEngineer status accredited by those institutions.
The development of aircraft and related systems are much advanced around the world and even within South Asiancountries there is a trend set in already. Countries such as India and Pakistan have invested heavily into this area with their own Research and Development entities exploring the outer space operations in their quest to become super powers. Sri Lankan students have this rare opportunity with Asian Aviation Centre, to develop their career in this much important and ever developing Aviation Engineering field and contribute towards transforming our nation into a competitive world power through developments in the aviation industry!
